CAMDEN
03 / 2023
A mid-twentieth-century school in Camden North London, listed for its historical significance, serves as a compelling case study in sustainable retrofitting within heritage constraints. Faced with the dual challenge of preserving the building's architectural integrity and reducing its carbon footprint, the project team meticulously integrated Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) into the school's heating system. The custom enclosure, skillfully designed to harmonize with the school's aesthetics, not only conceals the ASHP units but also dampens noise and ensures minimal visual impact. As a result, the school now enjoys significantly reduced energy costs and emissions, setting a sustainable precedent for preserving the past while embracing the future in the realm of educational institutions.
